#5 : Color

Walking the streets of NYC and window shopping, I saw a lot of military inspired looks and a lot of plaid and grunge. The windows of the stores had a lot of red, deep olive green and  SO MUCH black!
I realize that I wear a lot of black (I've become such a New Yorker) so I always gravitate towards it, but turns out black and white is really in! As for color, it's mainly focused on reds and oranges.

The fashion forecasting services show that warm colors are really in this season (as opposed to cool colors; which I happen to love) and the warm colors are focusing mostly on red hues and orange hues!

In my opinion, I think the yellows and the magentas are really nice; I've never really liked red! but dark reds and red included in the plaid I can definitely dig!

#4: NY Times Fashion Blog

So, looking on their blog, I came across a few posts that interested me but I tried to go back a bit so I wouldn't choose the same one as someone else! I decided to stop at Eric Wilson's post "Michael Kors Doesn't Break a Sweat" and evaluate it. He used nice fashion jargon but I do admit, he does not write as well as Cathy; she makes you visualize what she sees! Eric explained nicely the pieces that Michael Kors showed on the runway for spring and said it was '"summer romance … a softer attitude … the juxtaposition of sportif and romantic …” ' and indeed it was!
I liked that Kors's show was basically the opposite of Marc Jacobs (which we just read about and saw in our last class!) and gave you a happy feeling of warm weather coming along, but what I thought was cool and different was the fur on the dress shirt.
Eric Wilson's post was short and sweet and to the point, he gave nice specifics and comparisons and also let us know how high the humidity percentage was that day!!

#3 Fashion Trend from NY Streets

For post # 3 we were asked to take pictures of some street fashion that we came across. that is when I noticed that I suck at taking pictures. I decided to go into the city on Saturday, Union Square and scope out some fashion but surprisingly there was no trend that stood out!
I did see a few people with fall attire, hopefully you can make it out!!

this was in Forever21, she had over-the-knee socks with combat boots, a lacy skirt with a pink button down. It was a nice transition from summer to fall with the skirt and color of the skirt. the socks and boots gave it the fall touch. the blue bag added a pop of color.
this was me being a creep on the train. this girl had a big flowy cardigan used as a top, underneath she only had a bandeaux. paired with leggings and combat boots that matched her bag, the cardigan as a light long sleeve top made it a fall piece, wasn't layering involved yet, leggings always a comfy yet classic choice, boots give that fall statement
this last one is me being a creep in the train station. This woman had a blue-toned floral blouse an with electric blue mini skirt paired with navy tights, booties and a black blazer. the combinations of blue she wore made it known that she wasn't ready to be in "dark hues", the floral was nicely pieced so it didn't seem summery but just right. the blazer and booties gave it a fall look.

#2 Key Item for Fall 2013

Fall is my favorite season of the year! I love that it is still warm but the wind is cooler and what I love most is the fashion. Fall fashion is the cutest and coziest, can't wait to go shopping!

Each season has a few key items; we will focus on the Fall.

This year's Fall 2013 Key Item that I personally love is the Asymmetrical Hemline.

Narciso Rodriguez NY Fall '13

I think it's sexy, you show a little bit more leg on one side and the look of it is cool. It gives your outfit a different style, rather than just wearing either a maxi skirt, a midi skirt or a mini skirt, you can wear them all at once!

If you go shopping, and I mean not high-end clothes, you can find this Key Item almost anywhere. I walked into a few of my favorite stores such as forever21, H&M, and Zara and I saw the Asymmetrical Hemline.

I will be gracing my closet with an asymmetrical hemline soon ;)
